Pros

You learn much about financial services and products. Many things you can help educate yourself and loved ones with. Its a great entry into the banking world.

Cons

Nobody at the retail level enjoys working for the company. The company structure is poorly designed, which causes a high turnover rate making it difficult for bankers to exceed when their incentive is based on branch performance. A banker could be exceeding their goals by 200% and see nothing for it if the branch manager does not have things in place to reach the branch's goals. Work life balance is the worst.

Pros

Strong teams have been built over time so there is a lot of knowledge in all areas. It is easy to reach out to other lines of business to share practices. Certain managers also understand the need for flexible schedules so if you are exempt, working remotely may be an option, though there are not formal rules around this.

Cons

This is a good place to learn because if you do not self teach what you need to be successful, it will be hard to meet expectations. No formal training and expectations to deliver results immediately upon arrival. There are conversations on how to reduce turnover from those leaving the department or company, which is good, but it may lead to undeserving promotions in turn discourages peers from doing good work. Make sure you keep every email and document every conversation because amnesia runs rampant and may adversely affect something greater down the road.
