Amazing Product, Hustle Culture

Pros

It was great working with a product that is making a difference within the industry it sells to. Many of the people are great to work with. Their core product for traditional law firms is really really good, and they put a ton of resources into developing that product.

Cons

Filevine will likely hit their annual goals every year, but only after they burn out the vast majority of their staff getting there. Hustle culture and unrealistic expectations run rampant. The common theme at Filevine is that 100% effort isn’t good enough, and their CEO has doubled down on that culture multiple times. Quotas are built to eliminate any real balance in the lives of their staff. Favoritism keeps just a few on a pedestal at the top, and a steady revolving door of attrition below it. New product integrations are slow, even with $Millions of pipeline just sitting at times. Often, new product offerings are rolled out before they have a basic understanding of market limitations. I’m also not sure that the Marketing teams fully understand each vertical they’re selling into. Many times I have been left wondering if they even know what an optimal channel mix should look like.

Pros

The office space is beautiful! There are some truly talented people at Filevine, with great visions for the future.

Cons

Promote "In Office" culture, yet do not have enough room for the high influx of people hired. Management does not set clear expectations for your day to day responsibilities much less KPIs. Payment structure for non-sales positions is ludicrous and against industry standards. Bonuses are a large percentage of the yearly salary, yet there are no goals or guidelines indicating how one might achieve their full bonus payout. Whether or not you "earn" your bonus is left to a verbal, "I'll take care of you". Many people were fired without cause or warning. Top leaders then lied to remaining employees to "teach them a lesson". The people are great but those at the helm lack integrity and transparency. There were many occasions where numbers were manipulated by waiting to process deals, cancelations and credits until the next quarter and/or year. We would then be reprimanded for the increase in numbers at the beginning of the next quarter/year. Fear tactics were used when these procedures were questioned. Their in-office policies are ridiculously strict, especially when the office does not have adequate space for employees. Stuffing 10 - 15 people in a conference room made for 5 is unacceptable. Not only does it break fire code, but it also becomes a serious health risk. Forced to work in close quarters when sick, penalized if you ask to work from home or take a sick day. Maggots and bugs were also found in these conference rooms due to management opting to not pay the cleaning staff to vacuum.

Management is out of touch with reality.

Pros

The quality of people within the company is unmatched. The support system from coworkers and being delivered to our customers is what makes Filevine stand out from other legal tech.

Cons

Management is where this company falters. And unfortunately, your role can defined by your manager. Across the company, senior management is so focused on the bottom dollar that the people are treated unfairly as a result. The Sales team is put under pressure to perform exceedingly well; Since the sales team is under such pressure, there is not much room to handle other day to day tasks which is put across to different departments. The roles are strictly defined but the workload is a mess. Legal tech has room for a frontrunner to take place but Filevine will be limping into it's IPO at its current pace.
