Pros

It can be a fun environment but only when it is slow.

Cons

The hours worked per week are terrible when you spend all of it on your feet.

Pros

One can move up very very very quickly, a degree helps immensely. Quality of life is good, not great...good, company outings and cohesion are great. Lots of companionship and great friends made. One does spend lots of time together with other employees.

Cons

Lots of hours, negative perception in public, lots of family members in system especially upper management. Auditors are constantly drilling you as store manager. Lots of turn over.

Pros

Great pay and bonus programs for those who hit them. Bigger stores have bonuses of 5K-10K a month in bonus while smaller stores 500-2K a month. Easy to get promoted, great discount on tires and service, lots of training. Company advancement is there, however it's extremely difficult to get out of retail and into corporate. Running a store is like running your own business with someone else's money, the financial statements have your name on them. If you don't have a degree, this is a great opportunity to make a living.

Cons

HOURS, HOURS, HOURS, HOURS... Work schedule, at a minimum, was 630-6pm daily, more often than not staying to close which means about 730pm, and with one Sunday a month required. Store Managers MUST WORK MONDAY, FRIDAY, and SATURDAY, thereby rendering your weekends useless for yourself. You WILL work 6 days a week at least 2-3 weeks out of the month, so in actuality you are putting in about 60-75 hours a week, depending on when you've had enough at the store. Someone is either in training, in a meeting, or on vacation so be prepared as SM to work another 12 hour shift. If you have a college degree, do not waste it in retail with Firestone, take the $30K-45K jobs(I was making $50K) with real advancement elsewhere before you get sucked into the "you can make $100K here" line that they feed you. It's true you can make it, but hope you can hit those numbers next year, and the year after that and etc..If retail sales satisfies the amount of mental stimulation you need, then go for it. But if you want a challenging job, a more analytical job, and a more flexible job then stay far away from Bridgestone/Firestone Retail Operations. Besides if things go sour with this company, the skills you learn do not transfer well except to other big retailers. So be prepared to work retail for a while, or start from scratch with another field.
