Pros

Very few, an occasional lunch usually paid for by a satisfied Business Owner (Broker). Very little support amongst employees towards meeting Brokers needs.

Cons

Often no one to go to for help with involved Broker issues. No one wants to 'step up' and make a decision, especially when it impacts the service to the Broker's end Client. No team work. Certainly seems that supervisors have their favorites and if you are not one, look out. They have stated the company 'values' but they do not practice what they preach. They have had some really good Brokers leave for better service with other firms.

Pros

This broker/dealer truly cares about their securities reps/financial advisors. They want us to grow our individual business, and have many departments and opportunities to do so, the home office staff are knowledgable and professional and the technology is top of the line.

Cons

The fees are higher than most independent B/D's but they are worth it. Also, you need to have a trailing 12 commission as an independent advisor of at least 200k for them to consider you for a branch office with them. Lastly, you are running your own office, so you need to be a self started, and know how to run your own show, they are there for the support. There are no benefits as you are running your own business, I actually need to pay benefits for my own employees as my business grows.

Pros

What I have found to be truly unique about my experience at First Allied is that they practice what they preach. Senior management consistently conveys the message that our success as a company is directly attributable to the employees that work here. I come to work each morning and leave in the afternoon knowing what I am doing matters, which is a feeling, admittedly, I have not had during my tenure with previous employers. Something else that poses a stark contrast to other employers is the ability to interact with senior management. Whether it’s the CEO leading a monthly staff meeting, or being able to chat with the head of HR about wellness, management is both accessible and visible to employees.

Cons

Given the size of the company, there may be, from some people's perspective, a lack of structure. In larger organizations, roles are often clear-cut and defined. For my part, however, I view this as a blessing. I welcome the opportunity to try my hand at new and different things, and to interact and collaborate with different departments in the company, including senior management (as listed above).
