Communication

Pros

Good prices on merchandise.

Cons

No communication from Regional Managers down to Shop Managers. Huge changes are done on really short notice. "Merged" with first Cash and haven't kept any business practices that worked. They like to add more to your job title than you're paid. Get paid more in similar industries for less work. Only managers get raises because pawnbrokers are on commission. Took away most paid holidays. Layaway policy will rob customers of their money for being one day late for a payment. High turnover and very limited upward mobility. Usually hire from the outside instead of promiting from within. Very inconsistent in regards to how they want floor setups. Will ask for one way, once completed they will request to put it back to how it was. Cutting too many corners to make more money. Will tell you to do landscaping and shop maintenance for free if the contracted company/worker can't do it. Will ask you to do A,B, and C but chastise you for not getting task D done while doing everything else they ask for last minute. Can't grasp certain tasks because as soon as you get a routine they no longer want it done or have completely scrapped the practice.

Pros

The best thing about working at Cash America was the frontline employees. Meaning the employees who dealt day to day with customers. The frontline doing the best they can to help customers and even go beyond the call of duty.

Cons

They claim work life balance but how is their balance when your a Manager working 70hrs a week. The pay is not that great for frontline Managers (District Managers are not frontline) and pawnbrokers. Bonuses are non existent for managers and not great for pawnbrokers. As a Manager you will work 12 hrs days while eating on the go. Sun up to sun down is not balance. All managers are not held accountable the same way. Favortism based on tenure and likability with the company.

Changed For The Worse

Pros

This company was stable with decent pay as you built your pawn book. There used to be lots of opportunities to work overtime. They continue to ask a minimum amount per hours per week but are willing to adjust your schedule for something important. The environment varies in each store and depends heavily on the store manager.

Cons

Recent changes have taken place in regards to top management. The greatest change being the CEO. Under the old CEO employees were well compensated and treated with dignity. The new CEO is a cheap accountant who is only looking out for shareholders of the company and company's stock prices. This new CEO treats employees like cattle and implements budgets impossible to reach to avoid paying commission. He has gone as far as planning to pay less commission openly without disgrace. The company seems to be growing in the stock market because of the savings in unpaid commission and not in revenue as the the CEO implies. One of his tricks includes changing management pay system, taking away yearly contests such as the trip to Vegas, transferring employees with high pawn books to other stores to avoid paying them commission for continued interest profits, and taking away yearly awards dinner events for top performers. Also yearly hourly raises used to be $1, but now it's a joking 5 to 50 cents tops.
