Pros

Five Below has great ideas and, for the people who work in corporate, work life is fun! They can even bring their dogs to work! You’ll always hear “work hard, and have fun!” They do try to make it a fun environment for the retail associates. And a 20% discount is a pretty good one, seeing as it is a retail store.

Cons

Hours SUCK for part timers, payroll is horrible when they convert stores to self-checkouts and cut hours from the people who work for them. They let their District Managers bully their own team, as well. Honestly, I would probably consider continuing my employment with the company if I had a new DM. As much as payroll is terrible for PT associates- such is retail.

Pros

Job security. As long as you do basics they won’t fire ya.

Cons

They expect the trainers to make perfect employees after 5 days. Payroll is ridiculously low. Large products and grand opening recoveries. Very corrupt internally and favor based. They move numbers around in a very unethical way. Basically if the shareholders knew half the stuff that went on they would clamor for audits. Suck up to your regionals or you will go nowhere.

Pros

Fun place to work Great discount Customers are great to work with there

Cons

Not enough payroll is offered to support your store unless it’s December Store managers are expected to work 45-whatever hours you have to to support your store so you usually end up working 55 hours a week due to not enough payroll Plannograms used to be less specific so you had more freedom to have fun with merchandising but depending on your DM you should be matching product 24/7 and leave empty holes if the product hasn’t arrived yet You don’t know what shipment amounts you’ll get until it comes in so your ASM and freight team have to be flexible and if they aren’t you will get behind or you will have to adjust your own schedule every week to stay caught up Salary is way too low If you are under the age of 40 your upper management will not respect you and will not let you have your own ideas and processes Turnover is very high because pay is low for all positions I had 5 different DMs and 3 different RDs in a time span of 5 months so it was exhausting to continuously adjust to new expectations
