Sales culture is absolutely horrendous. Once aboard, new sales AE's are greeted with cold shoulder as they are told to go to senior reps and beg for accounts in the patch they dont want anymore.
Obviously the senior, tenure reps dont want to give any accounts away, so refuse to do so until they are lost and already implementing a competitor. My teammates literally wouldnt return my slacks, calls, or accept any calendar invite I put on their calendar. How do you pry away accounts from your teammates if they literally wont acknowledge you? Keep in mind this is a business with a finite addressable market.
A culture of silent treatments amongst teammates and internal fighting hurts the business in the following ways:
Lack of Collaboration: When team members are not collaborating, it limits the sharing of best practices, experiences, and insights. This can lead to inefficiencies and missed opportunities for learning and growth. In a sales environment, collaboration often drives innovation and improved strategies.
Negative Workplace Culture: The cold shoulder given to new hires creates a hostile and unwelcoming work environment. This can lead to high employee turnover, especially among new hires who feel undervalued or ostracized. High turnover rates can be costly for businesses in terms of recruitment and training expenses.
Inefficiency and Conflict: Fighting over accounts can lead to internal conflicts, creating a counterproductive work environment. Such conflicts can distract the team from their primary goal of selling and serving customers, leading to decreased productivity and potential loss of sales.
Damaged Customer Relationships: If the internal strife within the team becomes apparent to customers, it can damage the company's reputation and relationships with its clients. Customers may feel their needs are not being adequately met or may be put off by the lack of professionalism.
Stunted Growth and Innovation: A lack of mentorship and support for new hires hampers the development of future talent. The resistance to new ideas and approaches can also prevent the adoption of innovative strategies that could benefit the business.
Reduced Team Morale: Such an environment can demoralize team members, reducing their motivation and engagement. Lower morale often leads to lower productivity and may impact the quality of work.
Also for those that like to learn and grow it is impossible in the above environment.
