A double-edged sword

Pros

fjorge is a casual organization. Joking around and having fun with your coworkers is refreshingly easy. They're rather flexible with when you work, as long as your work gets done. The dress code, snacks, and beer all contribute to a relaxed, low-pressure, and frequently fun atmosphere. Every once in a while, a really showy and flashy project will come along that everyone can be proud of.

Cons

fjorge is a casual organization. The company is happy to accept solutions which work, instead of pushing to find solutions that work better. Most of the projects you'll work on are low-pressure, but also low-purpose.

We appreciate your feedback. As a development agency, our goal is to deliver the best quality work that meets our client’s needs. Sometimes those needs are a quick fix on a tight timeline, and we’re sure to set clear expectations with our clients when that happens. As we continue to grow we are seeing more flashy projects with opportunities to really dig deep and solutions engineer alongside our clients.

Thank you for the honest feedback. As we continue to grow we are creating more specialized teams and coding standards that makes it easier to work with multiple programming languages, and also increase efficiency to better meet tight client timelines.

Pros

-Opportunity to gain a variety of technical skills and experience -Downtown location -Free snacks/beverages -Company outings

Cons

-Quarterly reviews, they provide the employee the opportunity to give feedback but it seemed that it would always be taken negatively. Your reviewed was based on how you represented the core values as an employee. If you did poorly in one category you were told to shape up by the next review (in three months) or be terminated. I felt this was a short amount of time to be able to fully improve. This made it very nerve-racking, you never know when your last day might be. -Team managers were rarely available (meetings all day long). This made it difficult for them to provide the employee with the tools they need to improve and succeed (to get a better review next time). -Getting help with an issue/problem was hard to come by -Condescendingly asked why you did something the way you did if management didn't agree with it -On-boarding new employees was a task that was discussed many times but never agreed upon so it made it difficult for new employees to get started on a good foot. -Below competitive wage compensation -A great deal of pressure put on you for tasks being done exactly on time and if you've gone over the time you are met with silent shame.

We are so sorry about your negative experience here a fjorge. We make it a priority to empower every employee to openly bring up issues so that they can be discussed at all levels and resolved quickly. Our core values are centered around positivity, accountability, collaboration, quest for knowledge, and other traits that can proactively be improved through open discussion, which is the focus of our quarterly reviews. We are sorry you did not feel you had the necessary support from your manager. We are discussing ways to improve both our review process and onboarding process as a result of your feedback.
