Pros

Really get your chops up in the field as well as getting used to travel. Also helps you achieve certifications and see which ones are relevant to the industry. Most of the people out in the field are great to work with!

Cons

Underpaid, overworked, too much travel, not enough per diam, cheap out on hotels. Mad crazy micromanagement.

Pros

Ford has very strong standards and procedures. Sometimes this is annoying - staplers are tagged fixed assets so no one can steal them - but it's generally very useful for building experience. When I was talking with recruiters, I had multiple comments along the lines of "oh you've been at Ford for almost 5 years so you definitely know your stuff". They have a strong commitment to training and are very aligned with AVIXA standards. I recently got my CTS-I, and a lot of answers were an easy "well this is how Ford does it so that's probably the answer". They do promote from within. I saw plenty of tech to super and super to PM transitions, as well as various lateral movements during my time there.

Cons

Morale, pay, company culture. It always felt like a revolving door. When brought up, management's response was that the turnover was standard for the industry. Salary employees on install track are treated the same as hourly install techs, but still OT exempt. When I brought up that 29 CFR § 541.2 (job title alone is insufficient) and 541.705 (trainees don't count) seemed to me to make this practice potentially illegal, my concerns were dismissed since "the company's lawyers know a lot more than you about employment law, the company wouldn't do anything illegal". This trainee period seemed like a big reason burnout felt so prevalent, especially when combined with the very frequent travel. Company culture was very.... Oklahoman. No work from home or hybrid except for specific positions (unless you're a favorite or very long tenured), inflexible working hours, mediocre pay. Extremely WASP-y and male-dominated - this is a problem for the industry as a whole, but it's no better at Ford. Extremely old-fashioned tech package. Everything is run off of a bespoke in-house DOS-based program that Mr Ford will never part with. (It's not literally DOS based but it looks the part, keyboard input only and it may have been cutting edge about 50 years ago).

Pros

They’ll pay you just enough to get by

Cons

The culture is extremely toxic and authoritative. Too much travel. Even on Sundays. A lot of forced OT but when you ask for it, it’s unavailable. They make you use your PTO if you there isn’t any work in your division or to handle personal matters, and will automatically deduct it. Upper management tend to have massive egos that require a lot of stroking if you want to advance.
