Fraunhofer USA/CSE: OMG. Where to begin?

Connection to the multi-billion dollar Fraunhofer Society in Germany ensures decent benefits and reasonable pay. The mission is noble and coworkers are smart, hardworking, and collegial.

Cons

The management of the Center is a joke. When the former Director left, employees were hopeful that things would improve. They have not -- and in some ways -- have gotten worse. Basic management principles are ignored and senior staff with experience are ignored or, if they speak out, sent on their way. An unwillingness to recognize the need for changes -- and make them -- will be the downfall of this organization.

Pros

Interesting work, interesting people, great place to acquire new skills. Team members are helpful and supportive. Nice building with large windows: a plus when locked up in the lab.

Cons

VERY little pay, especially compared to the work expected to be done. Upper management is a miss. In fact, the entire center is mismanaged. Every so often mass lay-offs occur do to loss of funding (as CMB is a non-profit).

Great cause, great people. Multicultural environment

Cons

Upper management does not have strategic vision. Massive layoffs happen every few year to patch the holes in the budget. meanwhile, they spent money on ridiculous things. The way upper management handles things just cries out loud for a law suit... sad.
