Pros

It's a solid company with a very good business model to ride out the rough economic times. The stores are clean when compared to other retailers (Wal-Mart, Target, etc...). The associates are great and I enjoy my coworkers. Good pay and benefits compared to other similar retailers. Very flex-able schedule when it comes to getting days off for life events. If your willing to transfer and commute to other stores it can really turbo charge your advancement.

Cons

Long hours during peak retail holidays. Stress can be an issue and you need to have the skills to deal with it. Policies and procedures that can cost your job if you are not careful. Seems like the company fails to deal with under performing directors/managers on a routine basis in a timely manner. I see the dead wood and it keeps floating in the Fred Meyer pool.

Pros

Great place to earn a decent wage for unskilled work. I came to work for this company after dropping out of my second year of college, leaving a management career at McDonald's, and looking to advance myself with better opportunities in career path and salary. When I attempted to return to college, however, to complete a business degree, the company would not allow time for me to attend classes, nor would they reimburse for tuition, as promised.

Cons

management doesn't practice what they preach in terms of treating people right. My departments did not suffer the large employee turnovers that were seen in other departments, perhaps due to the fact that I placed all people first on my list of daily priorities, including my employees.

Pros

Fred Meyer is a good place to start in the retail world. Fred Meyer does have a lot of training classes for Managers to learn how to balance management skills and how to treat associates. There is a good benefits package and vacation and sick pay. You are also given paid holidays.

Cons

Long hours, Upper manangement does not listen to department managers and the pay could be better as the stress is of the most times out of control when your a department manager.
