Pros

Most departments try and work with you and your schedule. There tends to be a sense of community between your co-workers

Cons

NO support from management. Totally unrealistic expectations. They do company, management and work environment surveys but nothing changes, and that is what happened throughout my 10 years working there. Fred Meyer does raises based off of hours worked, and to have received my final raise it would have taken me 25 years. And that wage was under the Portland average for my previous position. I was on the union negotiations team, and the Fred Meyer representatives laughed at us when we asked for a nickel more than what the food department received. Reason why that's sad is because the non-food departments make a $1+ less than the food department.

Pros

Health Insurance, and that's pretty much it. I genuinely have nothing else good to say about this company. I'm just typing to fulfill the minimum word requirement.

Cons

An uncaring company that consistently under-staffs, cuts hours at every opportunity, hires almost exclusively at the lowest possible part time level so they can cut back at any time yet expects you to work full time when it suits them, never fails to show just how little they care about you as an "associate", undermines the union at every turn, never backs up their employees

Pros

Almost livable wage if you can make it to journeyman status Union-mandated 20 hour week minimum Wonderful coworkers Benefits after 6 months

Cons

Management often uses intimidation to get people to do work outside job description Management is often lazy/disconnected from job they're managing and UNWILLING to learn or listen. Pay is barely enough to make ends meet. Takes SIX MONTHS for benefits to kick in. Stingy on OT, even if department is shorthanded Hard to move up if you don't kiss up, regardless of how hard you may work Will schedule 10 days in a row frequently Unrealistic expectations The rules often don't apply to everybody (favoritism)
