Pros
As a whole, teaching students is a pro. Fulton County specific - there are excellent co-workers, highly educated, and most are very collaborative. There is opportunity for growth if you are liked by admin. If not, you will be a teacher forever.
Cons
Overall, Fulton is truly unorganized for such a large system. There are new changes in books, technology, or curriculum literally every year. Expectations are out of control for teachers, which results in a poor work/life /balance. There is no database or system for teachers to share collaboratively across the schools in the county. Therefore, there is a lot of reinventing of the wheel going on in each individual school. Regarding leadership, there is definitely vindictiveness by admin in some schools. There is no recourse other than joining PAGE which is similar to a union but there are no true unions in Georgia. LKES, the teacher survey of administrators, is no longer used by Fulton County. TKES however is still used for teachers. So as a result of zero accountability of administrators other than test scores, a natural dictatorship will slowly develop in Fulton County Schools. Not all Atlanta area counties eliminated LKES. The school climate varies school by school. Before taking a job, it's important to get an idea of recent turnover and checking out CCPRI (school climate) scores.
