Pros

Futurex is a really unique company. We're in an age when data security is becoming more important with each passing day. Here in scenic, 20-miles from anything important, Bulverde Tx, Futurex is applying the latest cryptographic technologies to secure some of the most well known brands around the world. I knew absolutely nothing about data security or cryptography 2 years ago when I graduated and started working at Futurex. Now I feel very confident in my ability to apply cryptography to any real world situation. I've often compared Futurex to reverse-college. We're getting paid to learn. Nobody in the software engineering department is just a coworker. We're all good friends. It's because we all have the same attitude. We all have an appreciation for learning, a good day's work, and LAN parties. I have a passion for programming, and this is the place I want to be. If you have the will to learn, and enjoy programming, I think this is the place for you too.

Cons

Critical thinking skills required. You really have to figure out the small things on your own. There are a lot of self-motivated go-getters at Futurex, so that is where the bar is set.

Your comment about being a crypto newbie when starting at Futurex is a great one. While we live and breathe data security, we don’t expect our new team members to speak in ones and zeroes right when they start. For any nervous applicants: don’t let these aspects of a position psych you out! Our engineering team has a great onboarding process to keep you from feeling like you’ve just been thrown into the deep end of the pool.

Pros

Beautiful Location Great Co-Workers Laid-back, but professional Acceptable Salary Decent Benefits Good support from upper-management

Cons

At the time, I was a recent college graduate who just bought a house, and my wife and I brought our first child into the world. They hired me three weeks after I graduated, and I thought that this would be a great career with a lot of hard-working people that I respected. Unfortunately, due to 'economic circumstance', less than 3 months later, my job and the department I worked in was eliminated--leaving me unemployed with a ton of student loans, a mortgage to pay, and hospital bills from my child's birth--despite working extremely hard, meeting all of my deadlines, and producing a lot of material. This resulted in severe financial hardship (unemployment compensation in Texas is not enough) for me and my family, that we still have not recovered from. If considering employment with Futurex, I would be sure to ask them questions to protect yourself from this .
