Pros

People are great. Great opportunities for career development (especially for people right out of college). I feel like I am a much stronger employee than before I started. Company also have decent benefits that are in line with the market.

Cons

No incentives for top performers to stay. With new performance metrics, it doesn't reward good work and instead fosters mediocre performance and negatively punishes employees who do great work. As leadership shifts, it's obvious that the company is prioritizing money over their employees. "More with less" is something that I heard the CFO say and it really struck a nerve. It is not a people-first company anymore. Pay increases are also significantly decreasing despite inflation and managers are unable to help support and champion their hard working employees the way they'd like to. Also, diversity and inclusion is non-existent and feels extremely performative. And unless you're willing to live in Modesto, there is no room for advancement. And while there is a shuttle, who wants to spend that much time on a shuttle when you can find another job closer to home (especially one that offers more remote work opportunities and higher pay).

People are leaving for a reason

Pros

Interesting industry, respectful of personal space/family, respectful culture, company will try hard to help find a job for you within the company (i.e., you won't get fired unless there's good reason)

Cons

What was once a vibrant culture with a family of employees who worked hard despite the relatively low pay and poor location is now reduced to being just another company. What has changed? CEO unfortunately doesn't embody the corporate value of humility. He has low EQ and has placed/hired people around him that have equally low humility and EQ. This has led to low morale, and everyone looking for jobs outside of the company. If you're looking for a place with leadership who will empower, inspire, and develop you, then you'll need to go back into a time machine to join Gallo under prior CEO.

Pros

Benefits, Pay, Free and discounted wine.

Cons

Where to begin.... there is a reason you don't see them on the Best places to work anymore despite their efforts to keep this site cleansed of bad reviews. In the warehouse: They continually churn though good managers/leaders by micromanaging them and forcing them to revert back to old and obsolete processes. Then they will blame managers and team leads as scapegoats for lack of success in the business. There is no culture of accountability at higher levels and continuing to use your outdated processes and failing on your financial targets is perfectly acceptable because they will change the numbers at year end to make it work for our bonuses. But that is not the same story for middle managers and front line leadership. They will continue to pound you everyday for not making numbers even though they do not give you the latitude to fix the broken processes. Unless you are able to politic your way into their good graces they will put you on a discipline out of the blue, or have you sit on an off shift until you leave due to no work life balance. HR, wont help either they only exist to protect those senior leaders and union team members. I've seen an intern get uncomfortably sexually harassed by a union team member who got a slap on the wrist. I know Team Leads and Managers who have reported significant HR violations to no avail. My advice to new applicants interviewing with Gallo: Figure out what the turnover is like for these positions you are applying for. If its high, there is a reason. Company is very silo'd and there are pockets where severely toxic environments exists, while some people seem to genuinely love working there. The trick is figuring out which one you are applying for/joining. The company as a whole says they are "relationship based" but really that just means that it is very cliquey.
