Pros

Flexible work at most sites. A lot managers will let you work from home, or have flexible hours, if necessary. Education benefits are top notch. Corporate training can be good, but is often stale and equates to "drinking the kool-aid".

Cons

Everything else. Finance rolls the roost, and have zero passion for aviation. HR is a close second. I'm all about being a profitable and stable company, that validates risk, but having passion in aviation when you work for a premier Aerospace company is essential in my mind. Management talks a good game, but it's clear they are all just looking for the next promotion. Posturing, read as self-promotion, is more important than actually doing a good job. Just look at the stock price under Immelt - pretty much the company he has laid out under him reflects....stagnant and under-performing. Now we're a "digital" company, 5 years behind the 8 ball. Classic instance of "too big to fail". Bottom line - if you prefer politicking over being recognized for doing a great job, and over working with passionate people, then this is your place.

Pros

If you want to work in commercial aviation, there's no better company. GE is the undisputed market leader, and for good reason. There is very high quality technical mentorship available, and great career growth opportunities for go-getters who have well-rounded skill sets. Edison Engineering Development Program is un-paralleled in the industry- the company invests a huge amount of resources on this program, and it includes a M.S. that is fully paid for by the company with no retention agreement. Benefits are excellent and while engineering compensation is basically average to market, the low cost of living in Cincinnati makes these salaries more than adequate. Permissive time off policy- essentially unlimited vacation, sick time, personal business etc. at the discretion of your manager- in my experience management is very reasonable about this and as long as you are getting your work done and positively contributing, there is a lot of flexibility to manage your own work life balance. GE has amazing affinity networks (African American/Hispanic/Asian/LGBT/Veteran/People with Disabilities/Early Career special-interest groups, not to mention the massive Women's Network) that are well supported by the company and put on excellent programming and awareness events throughout the year.

Cons

Average compensation to market. Although GE is an engineering company, it can definitely sometimes feel like engineering is treated as a cost center by management and not given the respect it deserves. There is an expectation of casual (unpaid) overtime by management, usually around 4 hours a week in excess of 40, during times when paid overtime is turned on (before you can start charging overtime). Engineering culture can feel like a "boys' club" and there are definitely your fair share of crusty "old guard" guys who act like a-holes. Diversity is relatively low (I'd say engineering is around 15% female, just a guesstimate, and by far majority white) but this is definitely partially a function of the fact that the Midwest in general is not as diverse as the coastal regions of the country and many engineers at GE come from nearby Midwestern engineering programs that are majority white. Not an excuse, just some context. I am a female engineer and neither myself nor any of my minority friends at GE have ever been treated with anything other than respect. The affinity networks (mentioned above in Pros section) are awesome for balancing this con somewhat.

Pros

Very good employee benefits, and laid-back environment. Highly flexible in terms of hours and work arrangements.

Cons

Chronically understaffed, at least in my area. This is causing a severe knowledge transfer problem, as the majority of my coworkers are near retirement age. The work environment is also very regressive environment, possibly due to age demographic... The people I work with became proficient with circa 1990's computer technology, and are openly hostile towards the adoption of anything new they may have to learn. Despite official corporate endorsements of diversity, my area is openly intolerant of ethnic and sexual minorities
