Pros

Lots of opportunity for internal movement, good training for early-career employees, generally good managers. The product is exciting. Working at a large company provides a higher level of job security. Work/life balance has been good but is manager dependent.

Cons

Upper management extremely out of touch with individual contributors. Pay is lackluster, particularly the longer you're with the company unless you change jobs very frequently; employees not paid well for gaining expertise and staying in the same job for a long period of time even though these experts are an absolute requirement for the complicated product. Employees need to deal with typical large corporate bureaucracy.

Pros

Nice to be close to the engines.

Cons

Your work is just patching, small steps, no "Big swings" like what they want to say. Programs and design tools old and buggy, not even a GUI. Managers manage to the top. Most of the people get promotion based on who they know, not their expertise or talent.

Great Technology; Only The Favorite Advance

Pros

Exposed to up and coming technologies, great incentives for employees and benefits.

Cons

Only the "favorites" get opportunities for advancement. Those coming out of GE's leadership programs are put on a pedestal even if they lack years of experience. The expectation to rotate/get promoted every 18 months makes it difficult to build expertise and leaves the seasoned employees to retrain these "leaders" themselves.
