Pros

If GE Healthcare were to follow its own internal review process (EMS) and were stacked against other leading technology companies, it would lag behind. Pros Good set of benefits. Flexible work hours.

Cons

Salary increases fall behind the rate of inflation. EMS process is antiquated, unfair, and can be gamed. It usually is more about who likes you than what you accomplish. Even though they perform reorgs constantly, there are still too many managers as compared to individual contributors. They keep trying to remove management grids but fail to do so.

Pros

Lots of growth opportunity, average pay, average benefits. Some managers are very good, and a lot of people really want to do a good job and make quality medical equipment.

Cons

leadership vision is limited by quarterly earnings. Leadership consistently makes very poor management decisions in order to make quarterly numbers, even though it may cost millions next year to make up for it. Lay offs and turn over have forced far too much work on too few remaining people, and quality has suffered dramatically as a result. Focus on shifting work overseas has cost in terms of quality and responsiveness to business needs. The only reason GE remains competitive in the Healthcare sector is because they've still got enough cash to bail themselves out of the truly terrible management they're suffering under. Culture turns leadership team over every 2-3 years, so leaders don't have to live with the consequences of their poor management practices and decision making.

Pros

If you want a stable 9-5 job with no pressure to perform, this is the place for you. Flexible work hours, light work for most of year.

Cons

Once you've hit a wall, there's no way to get around it. The only skills that count toward promotions and growth opportunity are sycophancy and bombast. Genuine top talent wallows in mediocre tasks and reviews, and the incompetent stroll ahead by simply saying what management want to hear. Master Powerpoint and Excel, make sure your presentations have lots of colors and meaningless charts, and you've cornered your corner office. The company tagline, "Imagination at Work" couldn't be farther from the truth. This company is as much about Imagination as Enron was about Ethics, and Goldman Sachs is about Social Equality. If you have had the best year possible, expect a "generous" 3-4% appraisal. Bonus? "Haha, don't make me laugh! Who do you think we are, Siemens?" Bottom line: If you're someone who thrives in creativity and expects rewards for performance, stay away.
