The senior leadership is out of touch with the realities of this tough market place. Leaders in the different GE Healthcare businesses cycle through quickly - and every time someone new steps into the role they come up with some new project that they impose on the sales force, wastes our time, and makes no impact. Then that leader gets promoted or moves on, and we have to go through the same thing again with a new business leader.
While there are a lot of smart people working here, there are also some immature, petty, and lack-luster people out in the 'field' (or sales environment). Because this is a huge business, perhaps there isn't enough quality control. The point is, these people ruin your perception and experience within the company. They promote an environment where gossip thrives -- and some of them are in management positions out in the field.
The truly worst part of it all is that compensation is poorly structured. Yes, base salary is low like in most sales jobs -- but here it is horribly low. Also, because of senior leadership GE did not prepare for the declining healthcare market and financial disasters that we're seeing this year -- and so everyone was given an insurmountable operating plan. Which means that no one is going to make their number, and the leadership is unwilling to adjust the plans even slightly. To make matters worse -- when you do sell something you have to go cross your fingers and pray that GE pays you accurately for what you sold. 95% of the time they screw up your compensation (always pay you less that they're supposed to) -- and when you try to fight it with the compensation team you get no where.
