Pros

Pay is generally above average, training opportunities are good if you go looking for them.

Cons

My job has been at risk the last 3 years in a row. Management is very concerned about head count but not concerned about keeping talented and succeeding individuals. Company policies force out the highest performers during more difficult times leaving only the under performers. There is so much negativity at all levels.

Pros

Compensation and benefits are pretty good. A lot of opportunities to evolve and move to different positions.

Cons

This is a company where only the financial results matter. Everything else, including employees well-being is secondary. A lot of stress and a lot of pressure. Very bureaucratic and slow.

Pros

Friendly people, good teamwork, good pay and benefits until GE took over.

Cons

I was acquired by GE (formerly Alstom Power Automation and Controls) in October 2015. Our controls business had been going downhill steadily due to poor sales force and management. I was hoping for a revival with GE and GE management. Unfortunately, they allowed the French management to stay in charge and all but officially killed the ex Alstom controls business in the US, despite several GE folks saying they liked what they saw. My colleagues had a brief opportunity to meet with the Salem, VA operations. They were not impressed. A lot of re-organization and in-fighting going on in the controls business in GE allowing for internal competition between business units and it appears it's only going to get worse. I'm glad they let me go with a severance. Stay away from GE controls. Can't comment on other parts of GE.
