We’re disappointed to hear that you feel we are overly focused on profit through micro-management. We do perform slightly above the median of our industry peer group from a profit perspective. Our focus, as a company, is first and foremost on our clients and employees. We believe that by focusing on adding value and providing great service for our clients and providing a great workplace full of career growth opportunities for our employees, the profits follow. We do keep an eye on overhead expenses to ensure we can provide above industry total rewards to our employees and can remain competitive to win exciting new projects. We reinvest our profit back to our employees in a variety of ways including profit sharing, an above market performance bonuses and Total Rewards package, training and career development opportunities, such as our Leadership Development Program (LDP) and tuition reimbursement programs, to name a few. The leadership of our company has always had multiple tiers while avoiding bureaucracy. Our executive leaders wear two to three hats each to avoid being too “top heavy,” and we have very few layers of leadership between the entry and the executive level. We are in the process of launching our new Internal Advisory Board, which will contain a balanced mixed of leaders of all levels, to augment the leadership our employees already provide through our various committees, such as Sustainability, Risk, QA/QC, DE+I and more. I encourage you to speak with your regional operations manager or any member of our executive team to further discuss your feedback and learn about opportunities to engage in the leadership of our company.

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear that you enjoy our culture and time off benefits. We do allow some of our employees to occasionally work from home on a case-by-case basis, dependent upon the role, responsibility and individual performance. For administrative and support staff, we have a wide variety of growth opportunities that range from taking on new projects and assignments to promotional opportunities. We rely heavily upon our intrapreneurial-minded staff to let us know when they’re ready for more and will happily engage in an ongoing dialog around possibilities. We also have a check in and career development process that supports an ongoing conversation around professional development. With regard to your concerns and frustrations regarding your supervisor, it is disappointing to hear your experience with leadership isn’t to your satisfaction. We work hard at identifying, selecting and cultivating a strong leadership team, which consists mainly of talented engineers and scientists. We offer a broad array of leadership development and learning opportunities to potential and current leaders. In fact, our 2017 exit interview data shows us that 90.7% of employees leaving GEI rated their supervisor favorably on demonstrating fair and equal treatment. I encourage you to engage any leader within the organization on both growth opportunities as well as to provide specifics about your leadership concerns so we have an opportunity to address them. You have a wide variety of channels in which to voice your concerns. You can speak with anyone in your supervisor’s leadership chain, such as your Branch or Regional Operations Manager. You are also welcome to call any leader on the executive team directly. The People & Safety team are available to you as well. We appreciate your hard work and dedication to our organization.

Pros

Great benefits. Ability to learn.

Cons

Too much focus on billable work. Stuck in the old ways of doing work since most employees are on the older side. Approval up the corporate ladder is difficult.
