Pros

Work from home eligibility, Good pay for someone coming out of school, Good for a first job experience.

Cons

I’ve been with the company for nearly 2 years and I’ve seen it deteriorate very quickly. The newest CEO treats everyone as a number and is constantly focused on efficiency. His sense of moral values appears non existent and that sense of leadership has trickled down into every facet of the company. I’ve been a consistent high performer since I’ve started but it’s become impossible to excel in the role. When I first started you could easily make 6 figures but that’s now just not possible because our time is wasted with new company policies and scripts. The job is extremely monotonous and it’s not worth the base pay. You’ll get back to back to back calls of people all across the country looking for the cheapest insurance. A lot of people are too lazy to go online and will call just to have you do the work for them with no intention to buy. It’s the climate we’re in with insurance but it’s the job. There’s no sense of care for your mental health and it will always be about what’s best for the company. Although I will say I will always be greatful for the experience that I’ve attained while being here.

Pros

In my last role as an analyst, my role was fairly easy and straightforward. Not much upward mobility but plenty of opportunity to reduce your own work via automation

Cons

Very toxic treatment of employees and unrealistic work standards. As an adjuster there, I was injured while undergoing training (unrelated to GEICO) where I still received new claims to work. This meant that I was being negatively punished in my metrics when I was on temporary medical leave (about five days) and was threatened to be fired. I then spent the next few weeks working with one arm and constantly under threat of getting fired. Since it was my first time job I didn’t want to complain too much to HR or management but if it had been a later job I would’ve found a new job immediately and potentially filed a lawsuit, if it actually got that bad. I left over a year ago and in that time Geico has restructured, and some of the nicest and most loyal employees I knew at Geico got laid off. They were given very little notice and severance and often lied to management about the safety of their jobs; many were directly told there jobs were fine only to be met with a small severance a few days later. The remaining people I know there are all trying to leave and all have been actively interviewing with other companies. I don’t recommend anyone work here.

Pros

Honestly, I enjoyed my first few months at GEICO just fine. Bonuses, merit raises, profit sharing all factor into the great pay. Health, Dental, Life, AD&D and Vision insurance is excellent. Inexpensive and GEICO offers multiple types of plans.

Cons

The only reason I stayed at the company for 4 years is because of the pay and benefits. My direct supervisors were always great, too. However, everything else about the company sucked. Upper management lacks the capability to communicate with their employees (or straight up *lie* in emails). Almost every associate talks about how they’ve never experienced such bad depression and anxiety before. The job is high-stress. You’re expected to be non-stop talking to customers (avg 5 minutes/call) for 8 hours every day. You’re micromanaged to the MAX. And the company actually tries to dissuade you from taking vacation/sick (which feels illegal in some ways??). This company has seriously gone downhill over the past couple of years and I have never been happier that I got out when I did. TL;DR If you’re curious about how the company actually operates and treats their associates, the Reddit subpage r/GEICO can give you some SERIOUS insight. (The company tries to hide this page lmfao)
