Great mission and poor upper management

Great mission to detect cancer early and improve survival.

Cons

The current upper management has a poor track record of meeting business goals and the non upper management staff are paying the price. The fall-out from the GRAIL-Illumina merger, subsequent spin off, and the resulting layoffs are brutal and were objectively handled poorly and in the worst way possible. Essential and mission critical departments were cut without concern for the business and regulatory implications

Pros

The mission, product and scientific innovation at the company is near-unmatched for its industry. And there are some real A+ talents there particularly in the middle ranks of the company, true experts in their domains and great people. Compensation has also been very good.

Cons

Upper management - Current leadership has an objectively poor track record of achieving business results, particularly given the substantial funding available. But this poor performance has had seemingly no consequences for C-level leadership. Change management - The planning and communication of the recent restructuring was a disaster. Herding people onto a mass 15 minute zoom call led solely by HR, with no manager follow up before or after, is not a good practice.
