Pros

The healthcare benefits are good. It’s stable. Cafeteria does a pretty good job and there’s a small park, soccer and volleyball fields on their campus.

Cons

I do not recommend joining Garmin as a designer. It is not a valued team, role or skill set. Research is sparse, opportunity to have an impact on the products is almost nonexistent, and even if you deliver on a 1,000/1 chance it doesn’t matter because they don’t follow up on KPI’s or real metrics, so delivering a breakthrough feature or making a meaningful update to an existing one has no effect on your job or career. The only real goal of a UX designer is not to be humiliated during demos and reviews by insecure middle managers. UX leadership won’t go to bat for their team members’ work for the same reason. Opportunities for advancement are sparse and usually only go to white men—I wish I was kidding. Pay is below average in the market. You can do better.

Pros

Cool projects to work on Great benefits Job security

Cons

Management is completely tone deaf to what engineers/people actually want. They are removing the hybrid work schedule and reverting back to forced full time in office, with no sort of compensation for losing this huge benefit. Morale at the office has taken a huge hit because of this, not only because of the loss of WFH but also because management has been super shady with how they have gone about it, not disclosing information and lying to our faces about the reasons for this decision. On top of this the raises this year were basically non-existent, even for those who worked extremely hard and put in extra time to get things done on schedule. Management is basically giving all their employees a big middle finger, and saying if you don't like it then leave. Garmin has gone the way of every other big tech corporation, except for compensation, even through they claim to have small company values.

Loss of Hybrid Work Flexibility Is Concerning

Pros

A stable company offering solid benefits and the opportunity to work with talented, supportive colleagues.

Cons

The decision to eliminate the hybrid work schedule has had a noticeable negative impact on employee work–life balance and morale. During the period when a hybrid model was in place, teams demonstrated strong productivity and contributed to some of the company’s most successful years. In addition, opportunities for advancement and promotion feel increasingly limited, and shrinking budgets are placing added pressure on employees. These changes, taken together, have created concern about long-term engagement and retention. I encourage management to reconsider the hybrid work policy or explore flexible alternatives, as well as to provide clearer paths for career growth. Addressing these areas would help rebuild trust, sustain productivity, and reinforce the company’s commitment to employee well-being.
