      Some co-workers are brilliant engineers.

      I was forced out of the company by inept management right after I turned 60. I was a top performer for 4 years, then all of a sudden my performance didn't meet expectations. The bottom line is, there is absolutely no recourse if a case is being brought against you. Performance is easy to lie about, and those lies are easy to document, because HR doesn't know what I do. So basically it's my manager's lies against my truth. The final action taken against me were things that I had done right, but it was worded to look like I failed. Absolutely nothing to do but resign before they fired me. This was the worst experience of my life. If you want a career with this company, don't expect much money, don't expect good management, and don't get old. I am not the first that this has happened to.
