Company is too conservative

Pros

Good salary & benefits. No dress code.

Cons

Very slow or no promotions. Men are rather put into leadership and managing roles than women. Very stubborn, conservative and inflexible management. Constant work overload. No motivation from management. Employees (especially women) are rarely trusted by management with enough authority to get the job done.

Pros

- Good benefits (although this is changing in negative direction)

Cons

- Low pay - High expectations - Master/slave workplace - Dishonest management - Almost forced overtime - Boring office location - Uninteresting people - Depressing offices - Red tape - No growth opportunities It started like a dream job and management were saying the company appreciates the hard work. With time you realize all that is lies and empty promises. People are forced to work much overtime, being payed below the market average. At the end all are herded to a room where management says thank you and gives a con of free ice-cream. No matter how hard you work, there is one thing where you didn't give 110% and your boss will be covering entire time of your evaluating to justify the little raise you are about to receive. Very cheap company. I wouldn't leave a feedback but after switching the job, I am getting good bonuses, work twice less, getting paid twice more, living in much funner place and working with interesting people. I just feel I have to let others know about working at Garmin.

Pros

Great facility to work in, really neat industry to be in. Lots of on-site amenities. Benefits are very good; health, dental and eye insurance for me and my spouse was very comprehensive and incredibly cheap. 45% employee discount that they encourage you to share with your friends and family.

Cons

Speaking to the IT department: pay was low for my level of experience, there are no bonuses, raises have been incredibly mediocre despite bragging all the time about continuous year-over-year record profits. They are highly against work-from-home. They very much emphasize the benefits to try to mask the fact that you are being paid pretty well below market rate. From the beginning I was promised career growth, but was hit with constant hurdles and excuses when trying to apply internally. I felt like I was looked down upon by trying to advance my career. A typical schedule would be 8-5 with a 1-hour lunch break, but unless you live in Olathe you really can't go home for lunch and be back in time. There is an onsite cafe but it is very expensive and the quality is very hit-or-miss. In IT, there is a very large and problematic sense of "not my job" when trying to collaborate between departments. They excuse this behavior behind "it's ITIL/change management" but in reality it's people simply not being helpful in any way. This leads to a lot of frustration and working on things that, ironically, shouldn't be part of your job. Being publicly traded, it's very profit/shareholder-motivated and and very corporate. You might feel appreciated as a person on a team level, but beyond that I very much felt like a KPI datapoint.
