Pros

Once you have a good team, lots of communication, everything is fun. Nice to help people. I enjoy it. Great benefits.

Cons

Can be overwhelming. Have to deal with angry people (what job dont you). If you want to move up in BESTBUY, it is harder since your not on the sales floor. Extremely hard to move up in general. I feel like company does not truely appreciate their employees. Rarely promote within stores. A LOT of politics!

Pros

I really liked my coworkers. They were all fun to talk to and we all got along great. Most conversations were what you would expect for a bunch of geeks. Comics, movies, video games, D&D, etc. We would also bond over our mutual dislike of some of the crazier characters that would bring their computers into the store. The job itself was very easy. Checking in computers and certifying open box items are the two main things you will do as a consultation agent. It is very easy and doesn't require much brainpower. The only reason it can be stressful is because of the attitude of the clients that you have to deal with in order to do these things. If you work at Geek Squad you are like the cool kids in high school all over again. I can't explain why, but almost everyone that is below a supervisor level a Geek Squad wants to be in Geek Squad. Everyone knows the pay level at Geek Squad is higher than the rest of Best Buy (which isn't saying much.), and people also want to wear the uniform. (I don't understand it either.) But while I was working there as Geek Squad every employee was super nice to me and whenever I needed something from someone on the sales floor they would drop anything they were doing and get it done immediately. All the GS employees joked about it. Everyone wanted to be out friend so they could get us to recommend them when a new GS position opened. So it was kind of cool having everyone treat you like royalty.

Cons

The managers were pretty terrible. I know most people complain about their bosses on here, but mine were a pain. None of the managers in the store wanted to handle customer escalations and would get upset at you when you requested they come take care of an angry client. When a client would be screaming at the top of their lungs for a manger you would have to beg a manager to come talk to them. After they were finished they would get upset at you for "bothering" them and not handling it yourself. That is literally what they are paid to do. Handle escalations. I wasn't their favorite as I would remind them that handling escalations are why they were paid $25/hr and I was paid $10/hr. This is obviously at my specific location, so don't think of this as a negative for all of Geek Squad. Now this isn't necessarily a negative, as I've noticed its not Geek Squad's fault, but I noticed that they are able to do what Apple was doing for a long time before they recently raised the pay of their retail level employees. They are able to get very very good employees and repair agents they are WAY over-qualified for the low pay that they work for solely because of the Geek Squad culture. There is something about saying that they work at Geek Squad that makes them feel good. Like people who would work at Apple retail for extremely low pay just so they could tell people that they work for Apple. We had/have people that could be making 4-5x what they make at GS but stay because of the GS culture. Don't worry, I don't understand it either. The clients were pretty horrible for the most part. People would bring their 6-7 year old computer into the store and get upset when we would have to explain that it really wasn't worth repairing. You would get screamed at every day when you told someone they had to pay a deductible on their claims when they were getting a new phone. You had psychos that would threaten you when you would explain you would have to send off their computers to the service center instead of grabbing a brand new one off the shelf. I was cursed out 3-4 times a week here for simply doing what I was supposed to do. It can be a pain after a while. And I hated that clip on tie.
