Lots of obstacles to care

Pros

Reasonable compensation. Options for advancement if you are not encumbered by a conscience or integrity.

Cons

Hospitalist is viewed as the lackey of the staff. Lots of deeply ingrained problems with prevailing mindset and work culture of staff. Passive aggressive behavior is rewarded. Lots of lip service to patient care, but more focused on dotting Is and crossing Ts and length of stay than in true results or care individualized to each patient. More focused on early discharges than positive outcomes.

Pros

Can’t think of any so I will give a nice warning. Thank me later. Stay away from Internal Audit. I’m a current employee in Audit and have seen excellent talent be driven away by harassing management practices. Currently, we are short staffed in our busiest time of the year. I have been trying to transfer like everyone else. Fourteen lucky Auditors transferred out of the department or left Geisinger within the last year. Do the math!

Cons

Back stabbing employees that will do anything to get ahead, even if it includes falsely blaming others for their poor performance to hide their inadequacies. Management that sides with these employees and harasses those that are actually putting their best effort forth. This department has thrived for years on taking away work from home privileges, demotions, write-ups, and tracking employees by tagging them on IM to see their status as a means of babysitting adults. Unfortunately, they are doing this to their hard working employees while the others get away with everything! My advice, watch your back!
