Pros

- Students are great to work with - Peers in my workgroup are supportive, engaging, and make workdays fun - Mission of the institution is clearly understood by coworkers and all of us work together well - Direct report understands the overall role requirements and is supportive

Cons

Top-level leadership is totally disengaged from the reality of its staff’s experiences. No merit raises offered/can be expected here, nor are there any clear markers for career advancement. There has been no paid professional development in 5+ years from my department. While inflation has skyrocketed, COL adjustments do not increase apace. Duties for my position have increase by 20% while pay has plateaued. Work/life balance does not exist. If you take my salary and divide by the hours actually required to do quality work, it’s below minimum wage - despite 10+ years of experience in the field. If you are young/female/young and female, expect to make half your older white male colleagues’ wages, regardless of similar qualifications, talent level, effort, or experience

Pros

Pleasant working environment with opportunities to develop relationships with peers and students. We get to see positive results because of the work we do here educating students in a faith-based environment.

Cons

Increased cost of living without adequate pay increases make it difficult for single-income employees whose salaries are already low. There has been an increase in employee turnover which adds to the work load.

Pros

Many of the students are interested, engaged and interesting.

Cons

By virtue of nonsensical (given the school's active marketing campaign targeting Christians AND non-Christians of every stripe) ideological commitments, Admin has worked itself into a deeply unfortunate (and harmful, IMO) position of remaining silent on LGBTQ issues and punishing faculty that are visibly affirming. They will not hire openly queer folks. If you are hetero/cis (and want to keep your job), you will think twice before actively supporting queer students. It's toxic. If you chose to take the job, think about what you'd be willing to do, and what you won't do. It's best to make this your 2nd or third most important stream of income, if possible.
