Pros

Decent pay, flex hours, enjoyable work. A few very good people.

Cons

Zero interaction between management and contractor employees. Ignored safety concern & recommendation. Refused simple by-the-book accessibility request, then summarily dismissed.

Hi, this is Molly from Talent Solutions and I want you to know that I read your review and am passing it on to the appropriate leadership team as immediate feedback. Safety is our top concern and it is our expectation that if someone reports a concern, we investigate it. I appreciate you sharing your feedback and wish you the best. Thank you again.

Pros

Private ownership by KOCH industries is generally a positive. Businesses are not managed on a quarter by quarter basis to meet Wall Street expectations. If a great opportunity comes up which requires investments beyond this years "budget" - then there is a good chance the investment will be made. Benefits are generally good - low cost of health care (offset by high deductible), good 401k/cash balance plan matches, etc. Vacation could be better particularly for experienced new hires. MBM Principles are a positive - Integrity being #1 guiding principle is great. Some of the other principles would be good if more honestly followed by everyone.

Cons

Middle and first line management that does not trust nor empower people who work for them to do their jobs well. Information is horded by this level of management, creating significant hurdles for worker bees to do their jobs efficiently. The challenge process should be a PRO - but it is all too often used by this management level to micromanage, delay progress, and put their personal imprint on everything. GP hires some smart people but then often does not trust them to do their jobs without too much spirit stifling oversight. It would be great to have a clearer understanding of the long term view of the business - but this is kept secret. Many mid level managers play favorites - not asking for nor appreciating input from other staff. These same managers are those who decide the next level of promotions - which tends to put more micro-managers in people managing positions.

Pros

Pay was reasonable and the Atlanta office provided some nice perks such as covered parking, daycare, onsite cafeteria, and coffee bar, etc. Company had good values and senior management is pushing the company in the right direction.

Cons

Mid level management(director and VP level) in Building Products Engineering isn't being held accountable. They aren't pushing the values that are being passed down from senior management. They're trying to continue working in years past and not open to new technology that makes day to day task easier. There is no mentorship for employees looking to move up. Bonuses are rarely given. The leaders in this department haven't done large project work in over 20 years when the demand for their products was high. This old guard management is having a difficult time adjusting to the new landscape in engineering and construction as new technology has improved both construction techniques and administrative processes while government interaction has also increased. Additionally, they're having a hard time working well with other functional teams. There is a lot of finger pointing which doesn't lead to productivity. Experienced employees familiar with such practices aren't valued and instructed to copy past work rather right or wrong. I would avoid this department if looking for a position in engineering. Fortunately, GP is a huge company with multiple organizations. I would target their consumer products division if looking for a position in engineering.
