Pros

GTRI is an excellent place to work. Co-workers are friendly and helpful in this small environment, and movement within the company are available and encouraged.

Cons

GTRI is located in downtown Atlanta on Georgia Tech campus so it is rather difficult to get to and leave during high traffic hours

Research v. Support experiences

Pros

The retirement contribution is amazing. Many options to choose from for benefits. If you're doing research for GTRI, it's mostly a positive experience - the institute really strives to help all its researchers obtain graduate degrees in order to advance their careers (a Masters degree is required to be promoted beyond a certain level).

Cons

If you are not doing research (support functions), there is a general lack of motivation. Promotions in the are more based on time served rather than performance.

Pros

- Very relaxed, collegiate environment - Highest quality of research work done at the institute. Record rewards/grants last couple of years - Great job stability. - Management honors maintaining work life balance. Vacation time is generous ..very generous!

Cons

- Not very open to telecommute/flex work type options - Health benefits not very generous (thank the Georgia BOR for that :-)). - Financial compensation not very competitive (but hey, the pros - the vacation, the life work balance more than makes up for this ) ..
