Good experience in a new area, but very little training or development.

Pros

Excellent pay, job security, variety of projects, qualified people, nice offices, opportunities for advancement, large amount of autonomy, good reputation

Cons

Much of the work is very dull - lots of making minor changes to thousands of lines in spreadsheets, not a lot of training or oversight when it is desperately needed due to the travel schedule of management, poor communication from management (especially via email) due to their large workload

Incredible flexibility in taking vacation and scheduling Engineers are given a large degree of autonomy in developing solutions and managing projects

Cons

No chance to get a raise any time soon Feels like working here for too long will limit potential for a career move Limited potential for high salaries

Pros

*Great work environment *Technical management *Educated co-workers (most have Master's or above) *Professional development is strongly encouraged. Research positions allow you to take classes at Georgia Tech, and is fact required for promotion beyond a certain point. Management is very good about letting you have time to go to class, though you still have to work your 40. *Competitive pay and (very good) benefits for full time positions

Cons

*Fragmented labs. Lab management is trying with a "One GTRI" policy, but information sharing is sparse between labs. It has recently improved with some joint projects but overall remains poor. *Glass ceiling for certain backgrounds, particular those without academic credentials. PhD almost certainly required for most senior positions. This is mostly due to GTRI's relationship with Georgia Institute of Technology *Student positions carry no benefits. Hourly but no overtime, no PTO, vacation time, or other fringe benefits.
