Pros

paid vacation however you only get paid for 40 hours when u are required to be there 45 +

Cons

Gerber purchase and took over a shop I was working @ for 4 years . In less then 6 months all body techs and painters were starved ... plus double ticketing !!!!!!! warning signs demand to see the insurance companies original estimate if they wont' show it you can bet the someone in the office chopped it . They don't know how to bring business in the door . They don't know how to treat customers let alone their employees . being yelled at like we are children is un professional . they want you to stretch materials to the extreme . Bottom line, it is not a good work environment . I have never been treated so bad at a job sadly it wasn't just me it was all the other body techs and even the painters

Pros

they have tricked every insurance company into believing that their customers will be serviced first. this is far from the truth [you can't work on 8 different cars at one time].for this reason only, they have a huge market share and that means a lot of work is coming through the door.

Cons

they try to tell you when you work[outside the normal 40hr week].they want a mandatory 9hrs a day[not counting 1hr lunch]. saturdays are no longer asked for ,its expected. no overtime pay . no raises ever .no bonuses no matter what you do. no sick days . hard to take a vacation[especially in smaller shops with less techs]. equipment is almost never serviced until it breaks. supplies are monitored and rationed so absolute profits can be maintained with no regard to reality . the corporate side of the business has no connection to the industry other than watching numbers. the ability of corporate[boyd group] to understand what they are asking for does not exist. they are publicly traded and look only for the profits . no energy is used to better the industry or even the brand. over the last 15 years a lot has change in the business mostly for the worst and gerber has led that charge for the last 5 years or so . these are not opinions, they are facts that are proven everyday in the shops owned by gerber collision and glass .

Pros

Builds character and work ethic real quick if you don't have it. That or you'll either break or be broken. It makes my new job seem like child's play.

Cons

Very high pressure and hyper-accountability. Gets to the point where co-workers turn against each-other. I understand the industry as a whole is high pressure, but this is ridiculous; and they certainly don't pay for the amount of effort required. Too much push for AM parts beyond insurance companies and they want us to use terrible vendors.
