Pay is okay if you are salary. Benefits are decent. Great coworkers but the good ones are all updating their resumes.

Cons

Upper management has no idea what they are doing. The good people are all leaving. If you are a headhunter perfect timing.

Pros

There are still some good people that work there, left over from the Chaparral Steel days. They'll drop a bundle of money on breakfast burritos and other fatty foods for a 15 minute meeting discussing the "Wellness" program. Free water.

Cons

Sad to say, but this place is just of shell of the great steel mill that it used to be. Hard to understand why a Gerdau would spend $4.2 billion for a company, only to run it into the ground. Even if the steel industry wasn't struggling right now, this mill would be fighting to keep it's head above water due to poor management. It's like they don't give a damn about making steel. They want to make sure all of the employees can memorize all of the business acronyms and know what the production numbers are every second of the day. Some general managers are above HR and are allowed to dictate from her...I mean their throne. Don't fall asleep in a meeting after being up for 12 hours working nights. You may get kicked and humiliated in front of your co-workers.

Pros

Pays well, good benefits concerning healthcare and dental. Some departments allow a lot of overtime. A lot of cross training with various jobs.

Cons

Rotating Shift, not a lot of sick days available, the skills learned at this job does not really get transferred anywhere else.
