Pros

It's a very creative, fun place compared to most of my prior work experience. Hard work is rewarded, and there's a general recognition of competence. I've worked with a large number of very bright and motivated people, and they've been given enough responsibility to keep the pockets of incompetence fairly isolated. Overall it's an interesting business with lasting potential.

Cons

Thinks its a bigger company than it really is. Acts too cautiously because it has so much riding on one website. It's going through a big transition right now and not all the parts are moving in harmony yet, though I think it will work out.

Pros

Cool product, nice facilities, good benefits, nimble bisness culture. The chance to meet really talented photographers and film makers, work in Fremont, see your product in TV, films news and sports. A lot of this is fading though and they are probably going to slash benefits and pay after the leveraged buyout. The main reason to work there was to get rich on stock options, if you could...that oppty is now over and done done with.

Cons

Extremely sharp elbowed culture (9 bosses in 5 years, most of them fired, and nobody ever even bothered to notify me), ruthless politics, arrogant and greedy top management. There was a lot of fear in that place...even being friends with the 'wrong' person (if they were out of favor) could get you fired.

Pros

Getty has traditionally been a fairly decent place to work, it has a nice mix of interesting people both technical and artistic. Plus it's a cool industry, you're selling photos after all. The setting is pretty laid-back in terms of hours, dress, etc (although that's pretty standard for IT), in the summer people take off early to go to bars. The location is nice, in the heart of Fremont.

Cons

Salaries are not always competitive, the company does not believe in giving out stock options except for senior management, bonuses are often pretty limited, the technology infrastructure isn't as cutting edge as they promote to the outside world (you'll be working with .Net and a lot of very standard tools).
