An Exodus Not Seen Since Biblical Times

Pros

In the last six months, over a dozen employees have been liberated, either via layoffs or better opportunities. This has made what was always an empty office, feel even more empty with all the empty seats.

Cons

Either the product doesn’t work, or the company does not live its values: what’s more likely is that it’s a combination of both. This is a sinking ship: Gigster has a demonstrated past of just letting people go when things don’t go their way. They’re not solving the root of why they’re not doing well in the marketplace, and in turn just fire management, sales staff, and drive everyone else out.

Execution Fail

Pros

The problems the company is trying to solve are real - the process of buying software is incredibly broken and someone needs to fix it. Gigster's vision of empowering remote contract developers to work together on meaningful software projects seems like a promising solution.

Cons

The company was so poorly run that the founding CEO was pushed out and the new executive team has a big hole to dig out of, and it's not clear that they're the right people to do so, or if anyone even could right the ship. The vision was huge but there was no ability to break it down into manageable steps to get to that vision.

Caution Ahead

Pros

Lunch was provided by EatClub, gym in the building for employees, flexible time-off, Commuter Check if you took public transit, easy location near Embarcadero BART Station, supportive colleagues and executive staff.

Cons

Silo mentality: certain departments don't always inform the other of what's going on, leading to misconceptions and backbiting. Power-hungry, passive-aggressive female executive assistants who think they run the company, rather than the CEO himself. Incompetence on the HR team, leading to other colleagues having to pick up the slack when candidates come in for interviews.
