Pros

Working at GitLab has been a breath of fresh air compared to your typical tech companies. I have worked at lots of companies that have all the “bells & whistles” - great benefits, free food, unlimited PTO, slides in the office, you name it. Those companies also claimed transparency and that they cared about their employees, but their actions never compared to their claims. Gitlab on the other hand, I can say with complete confidence - they practice what they preach. They genuinely care about their employees and actively practice transparency in everything they do. No smoke and mirrors. I can’t even express how good it feels to be working somewhere that I am proud to be at & doesn’t hide anything behind closed doors. They not only care about you personally, but professionally, actively encouraging both vertical & horizontal growth to your career at GitLab while giving you the means to do so. On top of this, the people who work here are all so genuinely kind and willing to help. I feel so grateful to have gotten a job here! The recruiting / interview process was seamless and transparent, just like the company & product - I always knew what to expect and felt supported every step of the way. They are respectful of you and your time, ensuring that the process doesn’t last for weeks and weeks like typical interview processes. Overall, GitLab sets a prime example of how ALL companies should treat their employees. Keep it up!

Cons

No cons I can think of unless you think being fully remote is a bad thing!

Pros

Where do I start? - Fully remote - Awesome leadership - Incredible work life balance including flexible schedules and unlimited (actually unlimited) PTO where you don't feel guilty for taking it - Phenomenal benefits including free healthcare, office equipment reimbursement, and cool swag - Competitive and transparent salary (I was offered over my expected salary range) - Amazingly detailed onboarding that is time consuming and at times overwhelming, but absolutely necessary and truly sets you up for success within the company - The nicest, hardest working, and most genuine co-workers I have ever had and supportive managers

Cons

I do think GitLab does a better job in comparison to other companies in bringing in diversity for leadership positions, but they still have work to do though I know they're on it. I would like to see more reinforcement of GitLab values. My fear is that as we continue to grow and scale, there will be team members that don't care to uphold our values and follow our handbook which are important pieces of GitLab and what I feel really sets us apart in terms of a place of employment.

Pros

Everyone is super nice, willing to help, and wants your opinion. 100% remote, flexible to travel and live anywhere. Fantastic work-life balance. Annual company-wide retreat somewhere cool. No one sends emails - just Slack. Pick your own work hours. Great trajectory. Company is doing very well and people are excited about it’s future.

Cons

Figuring out the best way to communicate with people can be tough sometimes
