Great place for scientists

Pros

Lots of smart colleagues, great benefits, interesting talks and events for scientists to learn new techniques and meet more scientists, many instruments and cores in the institution, decent time off, UCSF campus doesn't have the best food.

Cons

There are not a lot of cons, but the low pay stands out the most. San Francisco is trrribly expensive. They will make you pay $280/month for parking. No where to move up without PhD.

The admin. employees are friendly, helpful, and excited about the scientific work being done at Gladstone.

Cons

Too many admin VPs with poor managerial skills, which leads to poor morale and almost no encouragement to want to go above and beyond your duties for the betterment of the company. No real room for advancement or development in admin

Pros

There are multiple avenues to learn at the Gladstone Institutes -- research-in-progress seminars, weekly seminars, lectures, distinguished lectures, lab meetings, etc.

Cons

PIs, senior investigators, etc. can improve their management skills. They should motivate employees with positive reinforcement rather than by intimidation. This obviously varies from manager to manager.
