Pros

The people The product Company wide recharge days

Cons

Gong is a catfish. They create this facade and over hype themselves on social media and then once you start working there and “unlock reality” you realize it’s actually a dumpster fire. Majority of the sdr org hasn’t been hitting quota for months due to overhiring, raising quotas, and terrible books of business. This has led to morale becoming extremely low and people leaving the company or looking for other new gigs. Many new competitors entering the space and offering better prices/free trials which has resulted in many deals being lost. Leadership is negligent, doesn’t take any accountability, and will gaslight you into thinking you’re not good enough to work there despite performing above the rest of your peers. They claim to want diversity and then don’t take any action into retaining employees from poc backgrounds.

Pros

Cons

An executive leader with Gong disclosed to an interviewing candidate's employer that they were interviewing. How incredibly unethical and unprofessional! This is just 1 example of of the unethical practices happening. As a former employee, it appalls me to know that a leader held to a higher standard within Gong would jeopardize an individual's career and not have more professional awareness that there is a code of ethics around maintaining the anonymity of an interview candidate.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We take ethics very seriously. It goes hand in hand with our "favor the long term" operating principle. We are working hard to ensure every Gong employee has a positive experience, so I’m sorry to hear that wasn't the case for you. We are always trying to grow and improve life for our fellow Gongsters. If you are open to it, I'd love to learn more about your experience. Feel free to reach out to me directly on LI and we can find a time to connect. Thank you again for sharing your concerns and I wish you success in the future, Sandi

The Emperor has no Gong!

Business Outlook

Pros

Gong has a competitive sales compensation structure, assuming you can close the business. AE's tend to be high caliber and well versed in consultative selling frameworks, which points to a strong interview and hiring bar. A few of the sales leaders (Jameson, Geller etc.) are very good at coaching and providing constructive feedback.

Cons

In the classic Anderson fairytale, the weavers tell the emperor that only those who are clever and competent can see his garment. But more important than the emperor's personal vanity are the townspeople's reaction: thunderous applause. Everyone enthusiastically affirms they see the clothes right up until a child's observation pierces the bubble of suspended belief. Gong's corporate story largely tracks with the fable. Leaders have cultivated a sycophantic culture that rewards and perpetuates delusions of grandeur. I have only heard glowing and unqualified endorsements from Gong's leadership that, among other things: the business is financially healthy; the tool is clearly superior to anything on the market; the 600% premium to alternatives is clearly justified; the AI engine is state of the art; the upward mobility track is a rocket ship. It took one down quarter (and likely a call from the general partners) for the entire delusion to pop like a balloon.

I appreciate you taking the time to write a thoughtful review. It’s nice to read that you think our AEs are high caliber (I agree!) and you’ve had a good experience with our sales leaders. Needless to say, it was tough to hear your frustrations. While our business is not immune to the economic downturn and we’ve had to make very difficult decisions, we are financially healthy – we will grow this year and we’re adding hundreds of new customers every quarter – and, equally important, our platform has never been more relevant than today. #NoSugar is one of my favorite company operating principles. It’s all about transparency and candor. If you feel that our management team isn’t living up to those standards, please reach out to me at ryan.longfield@gong.io to discuss. I’m here to listen and help with your concerns. Ryan - CRO
