Pros

Goodwill in San Diego County plays a vital role when it comes relieving people of their unwanted items. Unwanted items get a new life through Goodwill instead of going to a landfill. Items Goodwill can't sell go to the After Market. It's auctioned off in large containers, like a storage auction, at their big warehouse down by the border with Mexico. That's were a lot of items go. Clothing they can't sell goes to recycling for fabric. They are the main recycling place of any kind of electronic. They separate all plastic bags, paper bags, and cardboard into large containers and send them to recycling. Very little that goes through Goodwill goes to waste. I like about Goodwill. They also employ handicapped and other people that have limitations when it comes to getting a job.

Cons

The "River", as they call it, of used items usually aren't clean or sanitary. Goodwill only does an minimum of cleaning. Therefore, the sorting, pricing and recycling areas ore very dirty and dusty, and there isn't adequate air conditioning. Large fans are mounted on the walls instead, but this blows the dust around. Some employees wear dust masks. There's no professional cleaning or the place. The don't laundry the clothes that come in, there's too much of it. If it doesn't smell, they just put it on a hanger. Working in the donation area is like working for a moving company, constantly moving heavy boxes and bags, and furniture. I believe all jobs are minimum wage to start. Now the ugly. I worked in the donation area, and I got scabies from the donated clothing. This is the only way I could have got the scabies. My doctor figured it out when I told him that I worked at Goodwill. There is a constant turn-over of employees.
