Pros

Flexible schdule (Compressed workweek) Trust (able to work independently without someone looking over your shoulder) Most departments are pleasure to work with especially Marketing and Retail Friendly staff (developed many lifelong friendships) Generous Paid Time Off Meaningful work (its great to see someone less fortunate succeed and change their life) Corporate office and many stores are brand new (its nice to visit and work in a clean environment)

Cons

Not all positions earn what they could at a for-profit agency...but rarely do people work at Goodwill for the rate of pay.

Pros

the most DIVERSE and open workplace I have EVER work; lots of autonomy, at least in my department; staff really cares for the clients; very down-to-earth.

Cons

very low pay and no opportunity for growth in career at all-- the management is NOT going anywhere, and Goodwill is not growing. Unfortunately, some of the best employees I have ever worked with had to leave (including me -- I finished an MBA and they had no place to put me!)

Pros

costumer service (meeting diverse nice people) finding unique donations (memorabilia, jewelry, etc. you learn we things)

Cons

no chance of advancement horrible pay (and constant paycheck money errors and/or delays) work conditions (getting dirty, wet, sun burned, cut, etc.) weather conditions in open donation site (working regardless of weather) no schedule flexibility integrity (constant watch of donations handling) raise freezes (very common) costumer service (direct conflict with angry/rude/vulgar costumers if donations turned down) finding donations you want to keep for yourself (management is always suspicious of this)
