Pros

In the past I would have said benefits and profit sharing but those are being decreased. Grainger still has a strong brand and most organizations and customers already know about Grainger. There are also many internal resources and tools to help you be successful (these can also be a con). The long term Grainger Ranger employees are great! Last but not least, I would have said Jim Ryan (CEO) but he's leaving in October.

Cons

Constant change. I firmly believe in continuous improvement, but I also believe you should development a plan and then work the plan. Grainger will develop a plan and then before you can review how that plan is working and adjust, a new plan is developed. Within the past 9 months Grainger has gone through many changes. They recently closed 50 branches in the US, closed their territory sales division, opened an inside sales division, verticalized all accounts, all while implementing a new CRM system (salesforce.com). MICROMANAGEMENT-everything is tracked and with salesforce it's only gotten worse. And this micromanagement leads to more admin work which kills your work/life balance.

Pros

Great PTO Benefits You can make your own schedule. Great national sales meeting every year. Most coworkers are good to work with

Cons

Senior leadership cannot figure out how to return to growth mode. Their answer has been to now micro manage the sales force to the extreme. DSM's no longer have the ability to run their team. The have to follow a script on 1:1s that is a check the box activity rather then helping their reps grow as sales people. The job is way overrated and reps are treated like they should be grateful to kill them selves working 60 hours a week to make 80k.

Pros

Good benefits, profit sharing is good.

Cons

Lots of layoffs. The C-level leaders keep saying that everything is great and the company is positioned well for the future. However, their actions do not match their statements.. Last year they laid off 300 managers and on 3/2/16 they announced they will be laying off 500 sales people. When you start laying off sales force how much longer can you last? Who will sell your products if you lay off your sales force?
