Field Support Review

Pros

You get to gain SAP experiences for use in applications to other jobs, some of the co-workers are fun and amazing to work with.

Cons

Field Support is a haven of micro-management, to the point where if you do too much to help a branch you are written up and other times if you try to advise the branches that Field Support can’t do certain tasks, they’ll still write you up. You’ll never win as the rules are just meant to support management power and do nothing effective to lead the team toward success. Leadership within the department has wild variation with what management higher up is requesting and what branches expect. This inconsistency and lack of direction creates chaos. It is the most frustrating group to work at with Acklands Grainger, and the company feels like its best days are long behind it. They just closed tons of store locations (branches) and the company is shrinking quickly. You can also count on verbal abuse in this department, which comes from highly inappropriate emails from management within Field Support. Don’t take this job expecting long term success, but if you are down and out and need an income, accept the job and then immediately do another job search to look for something more solid and enjoyable. If you have another job, pass and don’t think of applying. If you are unhappy where you are, this job can only make it unhappy with added instability as they only work on contracts for the first year. Did I mention they have zero, as in no, time off? Not even for sick days. If you take time off be prepared to get zero pay. Nada. Zilch. None. Turnover is extremely high as everyone is begging to either move to another department or quietly applying for jobs outside the company. So do yourself a favor, apply elsewhere.
