Pros

- cheap benefits - matching 401k - discounts on products - nice facilities

Cons

- nixed profit sharing program - inept management - management lacks direction - management retaliates if you disagree on slightest things - zero recognition for work by management - no real direction in IT - too many IT pet projects going on and no focus on larger picture - high turnover - inadequate pay raises - no care for possible upward movement - HR does nothing if you have an issue with management

Pros

- Benefits are really good - Team members and business partners are generally friendly and helpful - Opportunities for movement within the company

Cons

- Unrealistic timelines for projects - No work/life balance - Expectations not communicated consistently to team members - Unjustified favoritism - Leadership lacking soft skills - Lack of mandatory implicit bias training and how to be an POC and LGBTQIA+ ally. - Method of assessing employees for annual review is highly subjective and not based on clear data provided to the employee. If you consistently get a 'consistently meets expectations' then they basically consider you almost ready for a promotion. It's virtually impossible with the workload and aggressive timelines to go above and beyond in any way. There has definitely been an ongoing mass exodus of folks from Grainger in merchandising and supply management, particularly product information teams in the past year, but leadership does not seem to care about retaining talented staff. We were treated as assembly line workers not people with graduate degrees and decades of experience who don't need to be micromanaged.
