Pros

Broad company - wide range of jobs and good upward career possibilities given the fact that the bulk of management is very old.

Cons

Old minds, old ways of thinking...they are very slow to change. Many great ideas are lost due to favoritism to old methods and peoples resistance to try anything new.

Pros

Even though Granite Construction is a very large company, it was nice getting to know the people thru the interview processes.

Cons

Granite Construction is a very large company that is hard to work your way up in. In talking to others in the company, they said it is not worth it if you are trying to stay with the company for many years.

Pros

Stability, "employee development", large network of resources. Coworkers generally happy to be at Granite. Opportunities to move around country. Safety culture is very important at the field level. Pursues a wide range of projects and alternative delivery method. The benefits package seems extensive, although some complain that the health insurance is substandard. Also the opportunity to pursue a career in aggregates, qa/qc, safety or environmental aspects of construction is appealing.

Cons

Large overhead, not an aggressive contractor. No formal training of any value. Also people are often promoted just for years of service, not ability or work ethic. Also it often times seems that once promoted some middle managers lose touch with work. Although, this phenomenon is most likely present at other contractors and businesses.
