Pros
Stability, "employee development", large network of resources. Coworkers generally happy to be at Granite. Opportunities to move around country. Safety culture is very important at the field level. Pursues a wide range of projects and alternative delivery method. The benefits package seems extensive, although some complain that the health insurance is substandard. Also the opportunity to pursue a career in aggregates, qa/qc, safety or environmental aspects of construction is appealing.
Cons
Large overhead, not an aggressive contractor. No formal training of any value. Also people are often promoted just for years of service, not ability or work ethic. Also it often times seems that once promoted some middle managers lose touch with work. Although, this phenomenon is most likely present at other contractors and businesses.
