Pros

Buy up competition. Pay is OK. Few good people here and there…all on the way out.

Cons

Toxic work environment. Backstabbing from all sides and encouraged. Clicks rule - one needs to party with regionals to be able to work without constant abuse. I’ve never seen such unhealthy culture. Total lack of initial systems training. Cumbersome accounting which is a total mess because people don’t last long enough on the job to get it under control. Everyone acts out of fear and is willing to sink anyone around. Huge volume of pointless reporting. Perpetually understaffed because it takes a certain person or a desperate person to stay. I’ve been warned by everyone I spoke with not to apply. I did not believe that a professional company can be that way. So I applied, got the job and found out it is actually worse than people are willing to admit.

Pros

If you can call overstretching your underpaid workers a pro.

Cons

No proper training. The company throws that responsibility on already overworked assistants and some managers. Managers in turn "delegate" most of their responsibilities on assistants and leasing and take absolutely all credit for projects that they are required to complete. Middle and upper management is non-existent, they never visit buildings and have no idea what actually is going on at each property always relying only on the word of a manager. A lot of turnover, as staff feels neglected and overworked. Pay is below the average for New York, depends on the budget and usually is offered at a below budgeted amount. Yearly raise is minimal. Understaffed always! Most properties have only 2 people in office covering the entire building.

Directors Untouchable

Pros

Those that work in this department either love their job or hate it depending on the Director they work under. If you can avoid EW, I hear it's great.

Cons

I interviewed with this department after many years with GS and was pretty shocked at the entire experience. Unprofessional, poor communication, and way too much power in the hands of one person, a particularly toxic Director that would be terminated if Greystar knew what she's doing. I learned after the fact that this is how she is with everyone. She told me this department purposely delays their responses to ensure low expectations from clients, RPMs and Community Managers, and to make sure no one becomes accustomed to urgency in their responses. She said "Greystar doesn't tell us what to do, we tell them". The arrogance is astounding. Greystar would be shoocked to know a Director is no-showing on client calls and facilitating a seriously toxic work environment.
