Pros

People are nice. They are good about providing education. They have great frills for benefits, but the basics that provide financial security are missing and many of us are spending too many hours at our desks to utilize the frills like free health classes.

Cons

They expect the nice people and the frills like a health center, free ice cream, to make up for low pay, pay and promotions are based on who likes you, not your work performance (an excellent review will get you kind words but not much of a pay differential.) No link between performance and education and pay and promotion opportunity.

Pros

The list of pros with this company is extensive. Salary is good, benefits are very good, perks are amazing. But the true strength of this company is the culture and its employees. I haven't run in to anyone get that doesn't want to be there. That is amazing and I've never experienced that before. I'm fairly new, but have been in my "career years" for sometime. Objectively, it's not a perfect place to work, but there's no such thing as perfect. Grinnell really goes above and beyond to try to keep everyone engaged and content. I am so glad I stumbled into this job and meshed with the interview panel so well. For the first time in my life I feel I have found a place that I have no concerns about staying at For the remainder of my career. If you are reading this review as part of research into the company due to an interview or job offer, definitely take the job.

Cons

The only cons I can see are with the technology used, but that is being addressed. The new claims system is on a very slow roll-out, but honestly I think that's a good thing. The last company I was with rolled out a new claims system too quickly and it was very buggy from the start. I would not recommend doing it that way.

Pros

Excellent managers and above! Great freedom in doing job! Internal programs for advancement. Guidelines to follow with use of alternate parts, etc, however, no iron fists to save 5 or 10 cents. Drive to treat customers how they want to be treated. Not a cookie cutter, one fits all approach. Customers are to a high percentage Farmers, contractor, business owners and easy to work with. Each day offers great variety! Few meetings. Outside co workers are nice group. It is really very easy to work independently to get job done. They do not micromanage workday! Small bonus at thanksgiving! Excellent health insurance benefits

Cons

You will improve typing skills, lots of reporting and repetition. Several computer systems. Start at 2 weeks vacation with a slow increase. Company logo wear is not provided - ever, and very expensive to purchase. To advance with company you must work in Grinnell. Year end bonus tied directly to 3 measures, no bonus for several years.
