Pros

Exceptionally friendly team of professionals to work with. Everyone really cares about their job and their contribution to make Guidewire a leader in the insurance software space. Guidewire keeps its promises to its customers, so customer satisfaction is very high. The products are stellar and something you can be very proud to sell.

Cons

Management has no formal training running a company of Guidewire's size and it shows. The founders needed to back out in 2008/09 and let more experienced hands guide the ship. The management team is full of political posturing and this effects team performance. Management in the marketing team is especially lacking with poor decision making, lack of follow-through and zero long term strategy. Sales whims drive all marketing efforts so nothing ever feels completed. Moral is very low among the ranks with respect to their view of management.

Pros

Guidewire has turned out to be everything that I hoped it would be. The company is delivers real value to its customers and operates with values and principles that are consistent making the world a better place. It is a joy to work with such capable colleagues.

Cons

There is not much to say on the con side. The travel demands are exactly what they are made out to be. Do not kid yourself. You will be on the road.

Pros

Small company with lots of talented individuals, a flat organization, and a culture of trying to delegate power to individual teams. As a model of how to structure a modern engineering organization that can be flexible and responsive to customer needs, Guidewire is a decent example.

Cons

Guidewire investors and executives, like most startups, are greedy. The compensation package is rather week, as are the options offered. Generally speaking, startups offer strong salaries because it is unclear whether the stock will ever have any real value, or even if employment will be assured for long. Guidewire offered rather low salary, especially for a startup, ignoring the risk factor associated with working for a startup, and stock options were pathetic.
