Pros

The people are great. I always enjoyed coming into the building everyday. The gear perks were nice even if you weren't a musician. Casual but business appropriate attire. You could wear T-shirts, but not with a print on it unless it had a music theme. Decent pay. A few decent meeting spaces.

Cons

The corporate office. Every floor creaks like you're going to fall through. Most of the office furniture is 20+ years old. Cubes are ok, but too many silos between departments. Horrible vacation policies when you start, no matching 401k, ok health benefits. Massive cost cuttings across the board is a pro and con. Lots of waste that needs to be cut in order to remain cash positive. No personal development training.

Pros

Guitar Center has built a well known Brand. If you are into the Music Industry you will get good exposure at the industry level

Cons

Getting killed by Amazon and online music retailers who better understand the space. Organization is managed day to day instead of for long term health. The current retail strategy of constant expansion has limits. Look at what has happened to Best Buy and other retails who begin to cannibalize their own markets.

Pros

Company discounts on music equipment.

Cons

Poor leadership at the top which creates an overall atmosphere which lacks unity. No focus or direction long term. Lack of awareness at the top levels of the overall Management weakness. Very inconsistent levels of management practice at all levels. Some good managers and others behavior off the charts in terms of lack of ethical behavior, abuse. Because there isn't an environment that supports growth and development one mistake can get you thrown under the bus. The focus is not on developing talent. It's on holding on to your turf. Promotions, company values, pay is very low for the amount of work entailed, pretty sexist, men are hired for all the best jobs even if they are not fit for them.
